Pickup hits teen bicyclist
July 26– A 15-year-old Savannah boy was airlifted Monday to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after being struck by a pickup truck, city police said.
According to the collision report, Hardin County resident Reginald Metcalf, 69, was driving a 1993 Chevy Silverado west on Pinhook and had just crossed Horse Creek when he hit Colby Miller, 25 Paul Street, who was riding a bicycle.
Metcalf said Miller looked like he was having some sort of problem with the bike when it entered the westbound lane.
He said he jerked the steering wheel to the left to avoid hitting the boy, but the bike turned back into the eastbound lane and they collided at 3:25 p.m., with the bike coming to rest underneath the front of the pickup.
Police said the teen is expected to return home from the hospital today.
