County commissioner accused of pulling gun on neighbor

May 10– A member of the Hardin County Commission stands accused of pulling a gun on a neighbor in an apparent property line dispute.

Sheriff Sammy Davidson said today that Jimmy G. Grisham, who represents the Morris Chapel and Saltillo areas on the county commission, called 911 on May 2 at 8:09 p.m. to report that some people were stuck in a truck on his property at 405 CW White Drive. Grisham told dispatchers the people were verbally offensive and that was why he called for help.

At 8:33 p.m., Carolyn Hale, 399 CW White Drive, called 911 to complain that Grisham had pointed a gun at her son Lucas Hale after the truck was stuck.

Davidson said an easement lies along Hale’s property and Grisham’s property. The easement is used by the Hales to drive to their home.

According to the sheriff, Grisham "did say that he carried a gun when he went down to the property" to check on the vehicle, but denied pointing or aiming it at anyone.

Lucas Hale, along with Devin Lewis, who was with Lucas when the truck became stuck in the mud, both claim Grisham did point a pistol, he said.

Davidson said the matter has been referred to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation because of Grisham’s status as an elected county official.

"I think it's going to be a property dispute," he said.

In addition to serving as a county commissioner, Grisham works at the public trash collection facility in Morris Chapel as an employee of the Hardin County Solid Waste Department.

Grisham has not been suspended pending the investigation and is continuing to man the convenience center.

Efforts to reach Grisham or the Hales for comment have not been successful as of this afternoon.
