House burns, possible arson
May 3– A vacant house at 230 Oak St. in Savannah was destroyed today in a fire reported to 911 at 1:09 a.m., city fire chief Jerry Shelly said.
The house had been empty for around nine months and did not have electric service hooked up at the time, he said.
Also lost in the blaze was a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible belonging to Teresa Norwood, who lives across the street.
Â
Norwood said the convertible top leaked and she had permission from the real estate company trying to sell the property to park the vehicle in the carport to keep it dry.
Shelly said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
