Michie man killed in moped crash
UPDATE: May 2– A 59-year-old Michie man was killed in a moped accident Saturday when he hit his head on the pavement while not wearing a helmet, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Richard Jones was operating a 1998 Polaris Sundiro westbound on Gin Road, located in the southwest corner of Hardin County.
Jones negotiated a curve and lost control of the vehicle. The small motorized two-wheel cycle slid and Jones fell off, striking his head on the roadway.
"Witnesses said the tire was wobbling like he didn't have control of it," said THP Sgt. William Siler.
Trooper Gerald Hardin investigated the 5:39 p.m. fatality.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, and Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at Center Hill Baptist Church in Counce.
(Ed. note: The original version of this story incorrectly identified the vehicle as an ATV, based on that description in the fatality report.)
