Man found dead in river had been shot, stabbed
April 29– Authorities have identified the man found dead in the Tennessee river on Easter Sunday in the Nixon community as Scott Wayne Sobey, 33, of Memphis, according to Hardin County Sheriff Sammy Davidson.
He said Brent Darnell Rowden, 33, of Lawrenceburg, was arrested Wednesday in Wayne County for violation of probation, and that he confessed to the murder of Sobey during an interview.
Rowden is expected to be charged with first degree murder in Wayne County.
Davidson said Sobey left the halfway house he was staying at in Memphis on April 8. He was expected back on April 10.
It is believed that Sobey and Rowden, former pod mates in a Tennessee Corrections facility in Henning, met over the weekend and Rowden stabbed and shot Sobey on April 11.
Â
Sobey was not reported missing, Davidson said, until April 19.
Rowden unloaded Sobey’s body near the dam. From there, the body drifted downstream 1-1/2 miles before being found by a man and his wife out for an afternoon of fishing, the sheriff said.
The investigation has been turned over to the Wayne County Sheriff’s office.
