Death confirmed in Tuesday crash
April 13– A Savannah Utility Department pickup truck hit a sport utility vehicle Tuesday, resulting in a three-vehicle crash which left a local man dead, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Killed in the 1:17 p.m. collision was Russell B. Sherron Jr., 54, of Savannah.
Trooper Jason Kirk reported that Paul Riddell Jr., 41, was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup belonging to the Utility Department west on Geans Lane at the intersection of Pickwick Street, across from Lacefield Drive in Savannah.
Beth W. Hamilton, 58, of Selmer, was operating a 2004 GMC Envoy SUV southbound on Pickwick Street. Sherron was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Cabrio north on Pickwick Street.
While turning south onto Pickwick Street, Riddell hit the sport utility vehicle, which apparently yawed and then hit Sherron in the driver side.
Â
Hamilton was reported injured and Riddell was not. Both were wearing safety belts. It is unknown if Sherron was using a safety belt.
Savannah City Manager Garry Welch said that because a city vehicle was involved, the THP was contacted to work the incident.
No charges have been filed at this time.
THP Sgt. Barry Siler said this morning the collision remains under investigation.
