Riding bikes, trikes, motorcycles to bring in funds to prevent child abuse

March 25– Hardin County Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse will soon hold two annual fund raising events.

April is "Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month," and local organizers have planned two major events for Saturday, April 9.

The children’s bike and trike parade will be held at the Hardin County High School track, with registration at 11 a.m., and parade beginning at noon.

The bike and trike parade theme is "Peace, Love and Happy Children," with activities including a blue balloon launch, helmet give-away, jumpers, games and food.

Participants raising $35 or more will receive a free t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated bike, trike and wagon.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. No motorized vehicles. Children must wear a helmet to participate in the parade.

Hardin County Community and Healthcare Foundation, Inc. will provide free helmets for those in need.

A second event, David Scott Memorial Motorcycle Run, will start at the Hardin County High School at 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 10 a.m.

Motorcycles will leave the high school and ride through Shiloh and Pickwick, returning to Hardin County High School. The ride will take around 45 minutes to complete and lunch will be served at the high school track upon completion.

"With our curriculum, any parent can learn to be a better parent," said Carl Perkins Vice President DeLaine Bottoms. "It’s really about having knowledge and then being consistent."

Classes at Carl Perkins teach the five protective factors to create peace and love in every household.

•Nurturing and attachment;

•Knowledge of parenting and child and youth development;

•Parental resilience;

•Social connections;

•Concrete supports for parents.

All proceeds from both events go to Hardin County Carl Perkins Center. Call 925-2252 for more information.
