Vacation home near Pickwick Lake burns
Jan. 25– A vacation home in Counce was destroyed by fire Monday morning.
Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin said the blaze at 275 Mimosa Lane was reported at 7:03 a.m., but the dwelling near Pickwick Lake was already engulfed in flames.
The house was vacant at the time of the fire, but owner John Alexander, of Franklin, had checked on it Sunday and reported nothing unusual, he said.
Fourteen volunteer firefighters from Counce (Dist. 3), Nixon (Dist. 17) and Station 12 in Savannah responded.
Martin said the cause of the fire, which started in a bedroom, has not been determined and the incident remains under investigation.
