AT&T prepares to turn on 3G wireless across Hardin County
Dec. 9– AT&T says that by the end of the month, its wireless customers in Savannah and Selmer will have access to advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday to mark the coming of 3G service to the area, which is currently served only by AT&T’s slower, less advanced Edge network.
According Cathy Lewandowski, AT&T spokesman for Tennessee, all eight of the existing AT&T cell towers in Hardin County will be upgraded to 3G.
The AT&T mobile broadband network provides accelerated mobile data speeds and the ability to talk and surf the Web at the same time.
From the start of the year through June 30, AT&T reports it invested nearly $200 million in its wireline and wireless networks to continue improving service for Tennessee customers. Upgrades to the wireless network included new cell sites, expanded mobile broadband coverage and 3G increased capacity.
"Delivering dependable wireless coverage for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected is our ultimate objective," said Gregg Morton, president, AT&T Tennessee.
