McNairy County Board of Education expresses regret for Miskelly termination
Oct. 20 - In front of a standing room only crowd at the McNairy County Court House, The McNairy County Board of Education unanimously elected Freddy Carroll as its interim director.Carroll is a current County Commissioner and former McNairy County education employee that has served as both a teacher and principal.
To the delight of the crowd of mostly McNairy County educators, school board member Jarrell Stanfield apologized for what he called a “Hasty decision.”
Stanfield called his decision to vote for the termination of School Board Director Charlie Miskelly a mistake and said that he would rescind his vote.
Board Member Tony Chapman made a motion that the board meet on Monday night at 6 p.m. to discuss a new contract for Miskelly that would allow him to finish his term.
Board member Jean Jones echoed the sentiments made by Stanfield and expressed her regret for a hasty decision and said she would also rescind her vote for the termination of Miskelly.
Chairman Larry Smith, last to speak, also stated his regret and that he would consider rescinding his vote as well.
