THP releases report on fiery Saltillo crash

Oct. 5– A teenager and a senior citizen were both seriously injured in a head-on collision on Saltillo Road.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report released Monday, Willie T. Casey, 65, 48260 Tenn. 69, Saltillo, was driving south at 1:20 p.m.

Johnny W. Bass Jr., 16, 160 Five Forks Lane, Saltillo, was driving north at a high rate of speed.

Bass veered off the southwest side of the roadway into a yard. The 1996 Nissan Maxima he was operating went several feet through a yard and reentered Saltillo Road and then struck Casey’s 2001 Volkswagen Passat head-on.

After impact, the Volkswagen rotated clockwise across the road and caught fire.

The report states there was no sign that alcohol or drugs were involved.
