Deputy injured in three vehicle crash

Sept. 21– The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate Friday night’s three-vehicle crash in Crump which seriously injured off-duty Hardin County Deputy Sheriff Joey Pinson.

According to a preliminary THP report, the deputy’s wife, Heather Pinson, 33, was driving a 1995 Chevy Suburban west on U.S. 64. Brant Arnold, 32, of Adamsville, was driving a 1985 Ford Ranger with lift kit and oversize tires east on the highway.

A third vehicle, a 1996 Saturn operated by Lee Flatt, 60, of Bethel Springs, was stopped on Crump Landing at the intersection of U.S. 64.

The Suburban attempted to turn left onto Crump Landing and was struck by Arnold in the side where Deputy Pinson was a passenger. Impact was also made with Flatt’s vehicle.

Joey Pinson, 46, who resides in Crump, was airlifted to Jackson and on to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

Sources said Pinson sustained two broken arms and a fractured pelvis in the collision, and that Arnold’s black Ranger may not have had its headlights on. The intersection, located next to River Heights Grocery, is illuminated by city street lights.

The THP said Heather Pinson and Arnold were also injured in the 7:56 p.m. incident.

The injured officer remains hospitalized.

At this time, there is no indication drugs or alcohol were involved.
