Memphian busted in three-year-old, $30,000 heist at Savannah store
Sept. 16– An arrest has been made in a three-year-old heist at Dodge’s Store on Wayne Road that netted the perpetrator more than $30,000.
Memphis resident Larry D. Davis, 42, is charged with theft in connection with the incident on Oct. 6, 2007 that cost the store $20,239 in cash and nearly $10,000 in checks, according to Savannah police.
Investigator T.J. Barker said Davis was arrested last Thursday after being caught on video allegedly committing a similar crime in Parsons, Tenn. Security cameras at Dodge’s Store in Savannah also recorded the suspect’s image.
The video at the local store shows a black man wearing a green shirt entering and going straight to the safe. He then stuffs the deposit bag down his pants and then exiting the office, according to the incident report.
None of the Dodge Store’s money was recovered, Barker said.
The report states it took five days for store management to realize the deposit was missing.
