Pedestrian hit by pickup

Sept. 10– A pedestrian was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle driven by a Saltillo resident Tuesday.

Nick McDaniel, from North Little Rock, Ark., was transported by helicopter ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after being hit by a 1998 Nissan pickup truck operated by James Smith, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said.

Smith, a passenger in his vehicle, and two witnesses said McDaniel stepped into the pickup’s path from the side of Tenn. 69 near Salem Road in the Milledgeville community and was struck at 8:25 p.m., according to THP Sgt. Barry Siler.
