Firefighters keep paper mill blaze contained
Aug. 25– A fire broke out at the PCA mill in Counce Tuesday morning, damaging a warehouse used to store recycled paper products, Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin said.
The paper mill’s fire brigade responded and together with volunteer firefighters from Counce (Dist. 3), Nixon (Dist. 7) and county Engine 12 from Savannah, kept the blaze "contained to one small area."
Describing the overall damage as minor, Martin said a section of siding was torn out in order to reach the fire.
The warehouse is equipped with a sprinklers, but the water system was being worked on at the time so sprinkler activation was somewhat delayed, he added.
