Major Hardin County election set for Thursday
Aug. 4– Hardin County voters go to the polls Thursday to elect the entire county commission, half the school board, mayor, sheriff, road superintendent, clerk, trustee, register of deeds and circuit court clerk.
Also on the ballot are the Republican and Democratic primaries for nominees for Tennessee governor, state representative, state executive committeeman and committeewoman, and U.S. House of Representatives.
In addition are two state judicial retention questions.
With 16,507 registered voters in Hardin County, there were 3,227 votes cast during the early voting period which ended Saturday, the Hardin County Election Commission reports.
That means nearly one out of five eligible voters has already done their civic duty.
Local Election Administrator Marilyn Adams characterized the early vote count as comparable to the turnout during a presidential election.
Polls countywide will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Two poll locations have changed since the last election.
Residents of the Armory precinct who previously voted at the VFW Lodge will now vote at the Savannah-Hardin County Airport.
Residents of the Counce precinct who formerly voted at Pickwick Inn now vote at the Counce Community Center.
The local election commission also announced an "emergency" relocation of the polling site for the Olive Hill (Dist. 6) precinct because of excessive heat. Area residents should vote at Olive Hill Baptist Church instead of the community fire hall.
