Arrest made in Tiger Mart robbery
Aug. 2– Savannah police arrested a 37-year-old local woman for robbing a convenience store about an hour after the crime as she got out of a vehicle at another convenience store.
Elizabeth Bennett, 285 Ryan St., was charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the taking of $200 from Tiger Mart at 1222 Wayne Road on Sunday about 11:50 p.m.
Hemlattak Patel reportedly told police a white woman came into the store with her hand in her shirt and demanded all the money, but then left without any cash. The woman returned moments later, again demanded the money, and Patel gave her access to the cash drawer.
Investigators viewed the security video and put out a description of the perpetrator, who was spotted by patrolling officers as she exited a vehicle nearby at Quik Mart at 815 Wayne Road.
Patel said she never saw a gun but thought the woman had one.
Police say Bennett confessed to robbing Tiger Mart.
Monday afternoon, Bennett was being held at the Hardin County Jail.
Bond was set at $50,000.
