Storm blacks out all of Savannah
July 29– As of 5:11 p.m., power had been disrupted in downtown Savannah for about an hour.
Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative Manager Jerry Taylor said at that time that power had been restored to most of the city after lightning struck a power line near the Water Street substation, knocking it out.
TVEC repair crews anticipated having the lights back on in downtown Savannah within 15 minutes.
Heavy rains and lightning swept the city, but no severe weather warnings or watches were in effect when the outage occurred.
