Drug suspect roundup underway

July 14– Twenty-plus deputies from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, Savannah and Crump police, agents of the 24th Judicial District Drug Task Force and U.S. Marshals gathered Tuesday afternoon on short notice at the Hardin County Jail’s courtroom.

Bantering, munching on sub sandwiches and sipping water and soft drinks, they strapped on their gear, hopped into a fleet of law enforcement vehicles and went to round up 27 drug suspects wanted on 37 felony charges and two misdemeanor offenses.

"As you go out tonight–safety first," Hardin County Sheriff Sammy Davidson warned. "I want you to be able to go back to your families."

The origin of the round-up, mostly of "individuals we know," dates back to November when the first undercover buys were made, he said.

The drugs involved, Davidson said, include methamphetamine, hydrocodone, morphine, cocaine, methadone and crack cocaine. Only two offenses are for marijuana,
