Baby found strangled
July 13– A 10-month-old baby appears to have died of accidental strangulation in Morris Chapel, Hardin County Sheriff Sammy Davidson said.
The mother of the girl, Angela Shelly, 22, told a deputy who was dispatched at 8:59 a.m. to the 1585 Ritter Road residence that she fell asleep on the couch while the baby was playing with a dog and some toys on the living room floor.
When she awoke about two hours later, she found her daughter unresponsive in the bedroom with a "mattress string" around her neck, Davidson said.
The underside of the box spring mattress had apparently been clawed or chewed by the dog, and the baby became entangled, he said.
An autopsy has been ordered, Davidson said, and the July 7 incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the TBI, said Davidson.
No charges have been filed.
