Cash, food aid available for flood victims
May 17– Some residents of Tennessee counties declared disaster areas because of the recent flooding and storms are eligible for special short-term food and cash assistance programs for victims.
Low income families that have registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency could be eligible for one-time cash payments of up to $500.
Food aid is also available to some low-income families not currently enrolled in the food stamp program who have unreimbursed expenses because of property damage relating to the disaster. There are also additional benefits available for families currently receiving food stamps.
Requests for assistance must be made at local Department of Human Services offices.
The special assistance is available to qualifying Hardin and McNairy county residents through Thursday, May 20.
