McNairy County eligible for federal disaster assistance

May 6– Four additional counties have been designated for disaster assistance as part of Tennessee’s federal disaster declaration, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

This announcement brings the total number of counties designated for Individual Assistance to 10 with today’s addition of McNairy, Perry, Shelby and Tipton counties. Other counties previously designated for Individual Assistance are Cheatham, Davidson, Dyer, Hickman, Montgomery and Williamson.

Individual Assistance for homeowners and renters can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance or other assistance programs. Also low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available to cover residential and businesses losses not fully compensated by insurance.

People and business owners in the newly designated counties who were affected may apply for assistance by calling FEMA’s toll-free registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362). Those with a speech or hearing disability may call a special TTY number at 800-462-7585. The registration lines are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., local time. An application may also be completed online by going to www.disasterassistance.gov.

Today’s announcement also makes federal funding available for debris removal (Category A) and emergency protective measures (Category B), including direct federal assistance in those counties.
