Interstate 40 reopens from Nashville west
As tributary flooding began to recede, safety officials have reopened Interstate 40 between Nashville and the Tennessee River. The 62-mile stretch had been closed after flooding began Saturday, stopping traffic from the city’s western edge on west. Flooding of parallel U.S. 70 left no good alternative route.
Tennessee Department of Transportation chief engineer Paul Degges cautioned there could be pavement and bridge slope damage and said only people who had a serious need to use the route should drive it.
