Man's hands slashed in robbery near HCHS
April 12– A Savannah man’s hands were left slashed and bleeding after he was reportedly robbed of $1,200 Friday night near Hardin County High School.
The victim, 47-year-old Marcelo Compas, does not speak English.
However, a woman who told police she was with Compas at the time said they had been to eat with some coworkers from Praxis at the Mexican restaurant on Pickwick Street.
According to Carla Griffith, when they drove off she dropped a cigarette on the floorboard and they stopped at HCHS next to Terrific Tans. A black male "came out of nowhere" and put a knife to Compas' throat.
Compas began kicking the assailant and grabbed the knife, cutting his hands.
She said Compas handed over his wallet containing the cash to the attacker, who was described as about 6 feet tall and wearing a black jacket.
