Hear a hit at the harbor with Worley

April 6– Native son and country music star Darryl Worley will host the annual "Hitmakers on the Harbor" event at the Pier 57 boat dealership in Pickwick.

Sponsored by local restaurant and bar, Freddy T’s, "Hitmakers on the Harbor" is an in-the-round songwriter event featuring top hit-makers discussing the stories behind their songs.

Joining Worley will be Jim "Moose" Brown, best known for his Grammy Award-winning song "It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere" recorded by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet, along with Walt Aldridge, who has written several Top 10 hits including Heartland’s "I Loved Her First and Ronnie Milsap’s "No Getting Over Me."

Brown also served as co-producer on Worley’s current album, Sounds Like Life. The album includes the Top 10 hit, "Sounds Like Life to Me," and Worley’s latest single, "Best of Both Worlds."

"Hitmakers on the Harbor" is the first of five songwriter events this year leading up to Worley’s annual Tennessee River Run on Sept. 16-18, a four-day festival established by Worley for various charities funded by his foundation. Additional "Hitmakers and Harleys" events are slated for Wednesday, June 16, Tuesday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 29.

"I always look forward to getting together with these great writers. We always have such a good time," says Worley.

"Not only are you getting a chance to connect with the music you love and hear the stories behind your favorite songs, it’s also a great opportunity to raise money and help a lot of people who need it," he said.

The Darryl Worley Foundation recently celebrated the ground breaking ceremony for the multi-million dollar Cancer Treatment Center in Worley’s hometown of Savannah.

The center fulfills Worley’s vision for a medical facility where local cancer patients can receive treatment without having to drive the long hours normally required.

Doors for the Friday, May 14 event, which includes a fish fry dinner and the performance, open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to participate in a live auction. All proceeds will go to the Darryl Worley Foundation.

The Darryl Worley Foundation is a public benefit corporation organized in 2002.

Among its numerous causes in Hardin and McNairy counties, it also supports the newly created Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ayers Children’s Medical Center, Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
