Boy says attack at park gang-related
March 23– A 14-year-old boy who was attacked at Savannah City Park on Monday afternoon told police the incident was gang-related.
Timothy J. Blakney said he was "jumped by five black males with masks," according to Patrolman Charles Childers.
The boy, who was treated and released at Hardin Medical Center, said Savannah Police Chief Donald Derr, said he was hit with a brick because he had recently been in a fight with a male subject affiliated with the "Bloods" gang.
Blakney was found lying in a deep ditch with water flowing through it. Emergency medical service staff had to cut away his clothing before he was carried to the ambulance.
Investigators are treating the gang connection claim cautiously.
