Chamber Volunteer of Year hit by DUI driver
Feb. 11– Harrison Perry III, the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce’s newly named Richard Rogers Volunteer of the Year award winner, was hit by an alleged intoxicated driver Monday night.
According to Savannah police, Perry, 48, had stopped his vehicle on Pickwick Street at the intersection of Main Street waiting for an ambulance with lights and siren running to go by. He told officers after the emergency vehicle passed, the traffic signal was still green and as he entered the intersection, was struck by a vehicle proceeding on Main.
The other driver, Floyd D. Presley, 57, of 2205 Glendale Road, said he was westbound on Main when the traffic signal changed and he could not stop in time to avoid impact.
Neither Perry, of 75 Pickwick St., or Presley, who was charged with driving under the influence and failure to provide proof of insurance, were reported injured in the 6:01 p.m. crash.
