Carmel Benson, 82, of Savannah, died on Friday, March 2.
He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late George and Mamie Austin Benson.
Mr. Benson honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was of Baptist belief and worked for IRBY Construction Company for several years.
He is survived by his sons, Tony Benson of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Robert Benson of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Trent Benson of Savannah; daughters, Sandra Moore and Donna Hayes, both of Huntsville, Alabama and Connie Franks of Savannah; sisters, Josie Short and Nellie Carroll, both of Savannah; brother, Jimmy Lloyd Benson of Savannah; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy Wilkerson Benson; sons, Steven Benson and Brent Benson; and a granddaughter.
Services were held on Tuesday, March 6, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with David Highland officiating. Burial followed in Hollands Creek Cemetery at Savannah.
