Carolyn Jane Fisher Newsom, of Savannah, was born in Decatur County, Tennessee, on Oct. 25, 1942, the daughter of the late Cleveland Ray and Neva Sue Culp Fisher.
On Oct. 4, 1984, she was united in marriage to Billy Neal Newsom, who preceded his wife in death on March 20, 2012.
Carolyn retired from Park Rest Nursing Home where she worked as a dietary manager. She was a member of Savannah Church of God. Carolyn loved going to church and in her spare time enjoyed playing bingo.
She departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 19, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 75 years and 25 days.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Jimmy Lynn Patterson and his wife Nancy of Saltillo, Timmy Lee Patterson and his wife Malinda of Sardis, Martin Dwight Patterson and his wife Janet of Lexington, Tennessee and Amanda Carol Franks and her husband Brandon of Savannah; three stepchildren, Nancy Cupples, Angel Mewbern and Amy Newsom; 14 grandchildren, Joel Patterson, Shawn Patterson, Wendy Surratt, Nathan Patterson, Jessica Patterson, Felicia Patterson, Gavon Franks, Graylon Franks, Amanda Ross, Casey Cupples, Savannah Mewbern, Allison Mewbern, Jackie Mitchell and Brian Hurst; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Butler of Scotts Hill; and one brother, Larry Dwight Fisher of Lexington, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Billy Neal Newsom, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Martin Patterson; and two sisters, Rose Marie Fisher and Rebecca Ann Stricklin.
Services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Chad Balentine officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
