Mary Joyce Farmer Clarke was born on July 27, 1933, in Trenton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Hugh Nelson and Cora Ida Griggs Farmer. On April 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to R.C. Clarke Jr., who preceded his wife in death on June 5, 1992.
Ms. Clarke was raised in Trenton; however spent most of her adult life in Savannah. Her last few years were spent in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was employed as a secretary for Clarke Insurance Agency and as a substitute teacher for the Hardin County Board of Education. Mary Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church in Savannah and enjoyed arts and crafts, quilting and knitting.
She departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the age of 82 years, 4 months, 26 days.
Mary Joyce Clarke is survived by her children, Nancy Wolfe and her husband James B. Jr. of Heber Springs, Arkansas and Jerry Clarke and his wife Susan of Savannah; four grandchildren, Jennifer Wolfe, Nicklaus Wolfe, Emily Dunbar and her husband Dustin, and Joshua Clarke and his wife Courtney; and eight great-grandchildren, Bridget Murphy, Brooke Murphy, Ben Murphy, Owen Dunbar, Isaac Dunbar, Ethan Dunbar, Olivia Clarke and Judah Clarke.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Clarke; two brothers, Edwin Farmer and Billy Farmer; and four sisters, Elizabeth Flowers, Bessie Hughes, Lucille Hughes and Alice Fletcher.
Services were held on Sunday, Dec. 27, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Joshua Clarke and Nicklaus Wolfe officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens at Savannah.
